I'm so glad to hear you had a great time. And managed a good spot in the venue. And that Mark was very sweet. (He wouldn't be anything else, would he? Bless 'im.) I wasn't intending to look at the setlist, but scrolled past it on Tumblr and took a look. I was hoping for a few more of his older solo songs (Pieces of Heaven would have made my day, but I knew it was a long shot) but it looks like a great set.
We're hoping not to have to queue too long, but given I'm short enough to make Mark look tall, I'm going to try to be relatively close to the stage. But seeing him in a small venue is going to be brilliant! (I saw Robbie in a small venue in Toronto in '99, and it's a big part of the reason I'm not so keen on seeing him in a big stadium tour. There's no way to improve on that experience.)
You'll have to le me know what your favourite songs are on the new album, once you've had a chance to give it a listen or three.
Yeah, I was very lucky because there were many people ahead of me in the queue, but it worked out just fine. Of course Mark wouldn't be anything but sweet :) About the setlist, I would have liked if he had put in some more solo songs instead of the TT songs. Shine and Hold Up A Light are fine, but if I could choose I would have preferred only his solo stuff ;) I would have loved him to do Come On and Close To The Edge, for instance. But I'm not going to moan, it *was* a great set ;) I took some pics and a few of them are not too bad. I will try to upload them later.
It was such a long time ago since I last went to a show in a small venue like this, and it really was brilliant and so different from a big arena or stadium.
Well, after having listened just a couple of times to the album I think that my favourites, besides Stars, are Giveaway, Heaven's Falling (this one was sooo good live!), Animals, Ghost. But I also really like Carnival and The Lamb. Too difficult to choose just a few songs :D
I'm very much going for the solo material, but since I was fearing there would be far more TT songs in the mix, I can certainly handle Shine and Hold Up a Light. And I'm rather looking forward to his take on The Flood.
I'm more used to small club shows these days, so going to a TT stadium is going to be a big shock to the system. But something I'm definitely looking forward to.
My favourites on the album continue to evolve. The Raven and Us and Ours are now right up there. And Ghost. But we're really just spoiled for choice on the album.
Yeah, it could have been worse, it could have been even more TT songs ;) But seriously, Mark has so many good solo songs to choose from that he could easily have filled the show with only his own songs.
I'm not too fond of the big stadiums, I do prefer arenas or smaller venues.
I like Raven more and more and also End of Everything is growing on me. But I really love the whole album and I'm constantly hearing the songs in my head :)
I do wish there were some deeper album cuts from his other solo albums, certainly. The non-singles are generally my favourites. But I'm just happy he's doing Boogie and Four Minute Warning.
My absolute favourite venues these days are the 2,000 seated theatre sort. I'm at the age where I like to sit down when I can. *g*
The whole album really is strong. And I've got a rotating series of the songs inhabiting my head all the time.
