Soccer Night: Game Twelve

It was another game with only eight players again last night. Which meant everybody had long stretches of playing at one time or another, which they all handled well. Our best player is really turning into a leader on the field. She's hanging back on occasion to give other kids the chance to take it down the field, and Don heard her giving other kids pep talks on how to handle the ball between plays. Go her! And we were playing a pretty tough team, and managed to win 1 - 4, so go us!

After having a few games where she was really hanging back, Ros was getting much more stuck in. When she started hanging back in the second half, we pulled her and our other smallest player who was also flagging, for a rest, and then they both went back on the next rotation with much more energy. There are definitely kids you can play for long stretches and they'll ask for more, and kids who need more rest breaks.

Only three games to go. At least we'll have most of our players back from vacation for the rest of the games.

Definitely go Ros! Me, I just provide a bit of structure and let them get on with it.

I'll try and get some pics of Ros up before the season ends. (Posting pics of other people's kids isn't on, alas.) She's adorable in her footie gear, and especially adorable in the goalie kit. Worst case, I'll scan her official pic, which we just got last week.

I have to admit that your soccer reports are read aloud and very much enjoyed in the office, this in an office from where i can see wembley stadium (at a distance) and all the blokes in the office are all footie mad. Congrats on the victory, this season has been pretty fantastic overall, so goooooo the coach!

I love the thought of reports of our Canadian U7 girls being read in the distant shadow of Wembley stadium. *g* (I dare you to tell the footie mad blokes that the feet in my icon belong to Mark from Take That. *g*)



We've had a fab season, but it's mostly down to the girls. As a coach I'm a total work-in-progress.

So what happens after the next three games - is there a finals series? Will Ros' team qualify? They seem to have had a pretty good ratio of wins to losses this season.

There's a cup weekend in September, but it's not a true finals. Everyone plays one game against a randomly assigned team, and everyone gets a trophy and pizza. I think they start doing real play-offs either in the U10 or U13 range.

I keep meaning to sit down and work out our stats, but we're definitely doing pretty good!
