Adoption Day 2015
Apr. 7th, 2015 11:25 pmAs it turns out, I didn't make it to tonight's Taekwando class. Tomorrow is the anniversary of us adopting Rosalind, so tonight we took ourselves to Mongolian Grill to celebrate.
This is the only picture we managed to get with all of our eyes more or less open.

For comparison, here's a pic of Ros as a toddler. It's hard to believe she was ever that tiny. (For the record, we still have the fuzzy green chair, though it's nearly too small for her now, and she more frequently sits in it tipped on its back and upsidedown.)

We usually get Ros a gift for Adoption Day. This year she gets to pick out her own Birkenstock flip flops, which she has been bugging me about for at least a year. I think we have the only eight-year-old who'd rather have shoes than toys.
In other news, whilst poking around my LJ to look for old pics of Ros, I found this comment in the wake of
draycevixen pointing me to
halotolerant's TG fic:

I have a sudden desire for a time machine so I can show 2009!Zed just how much TT slash 2015!Zed has written. ::cackles hysterically::

Date: 2015-04-08 02:03 pm (UTC)I think celebrating Adoption Day is a standard thing in the Chinese adoption community. It probably helps that you tend to travel to China with a group of other families so it gives you a point of connection with them. (We're going for dinner with one of the other families in our travel group next week.)

You're such a lovely family.

Date: 2015-04-08 08:34 am (UTC)Laugh, a child with priorities!
And haha for the old post. Now we know who to blame for your plunge into TT. We have the evidence!

Date: 2015-04-08 02:06 pm (UTC)I think her priorities are going to freak out her dad. He thinks I have a lot of shoes (I don't, really) but he'll soon be finding out what a lot of shoes looks like. *g*
Halo is very firmly to blame/credit for the TT plunge. *g*

Date: 2015-04-08 03:05 pm (UTC)Obvious silly answers aside (ahem): it is small, just a couple of inches wide, and is pretty much square: square at the front and then not nearly as deep as it is tall or wide. Very dark green plastic casing. The on/off button is on the top; you pull it up slightly to set it to ring, and it is, I think, moulded to fit over the back edge, so you put your finger on the back of the button to pull it up.

my mild infatuation with Robbie Williams
But, but - Robbie Williams *birthday cake*and UK concert dates (plural), and... LOL

Date: 2015-04-08 02:07 pm (UTC)Yeah, the "mild infatuation with Robbie Williams" comment really cracked me up. I think I've moved on a bit from there. Robbie is now my 4th favourite member of the band, for a start. *g*

Date: 2015-04-08 12:05 pm (UTC)It is really hard to believe so much time has passed. I remember when you were getting ready to adopt, and going to China, and then all the joys and occasional challenges that Ros brought into your life. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. I've never met Ros, but I feel I know her, at least a little. What a lovely family you have!
As for the never being tempted into TT slash...Heh. Heh, heh, heh. *g*

Date: 2015-04-08 02:11 pm (UTC)It really doesn't seem like that much time has passed. And yet it seems like Ros has always been a part of our lives. And it's been a pleasure to share the journey with you all. Maybe some day you can visit us in Toronto!
The TT slash comment really cracked me up. Heh, heh, heh indeed. *g*

Date: 2015-04-08 06:30 pm (UTC)This was one of the things I tempted you with, if I recall - which is as good an excuse as any to relive it, right?
Although I feel (for balance) I should post some of this too:
(I'm sad Jason is gone. But SO GLAD he got one more epic dance sequence. Because, OK, he's not the vocal lead and some of the wonderful things he brought are hard to describe in simple words. But the man can breakdance.)
And, in case anyone gets the impression from those vids that I pimped a classy fandom to you *g* maybe this as well:
*TOTALLY UNREPENTANT GRIN* ♥

Date: 2015-04-08 06:42 pm (UTC)I remember the exact moment you sent me the Knebworth clip. I believe my exact comment at the time was "Uh oh." Because it was game over from that point. Mark/Robbie was definitely my pairing of choice at the start, though I seem to have moved firmly over to being a Howard/Jason gal. Speaking of which, HOORAY FOR JASON'S BREAKDANCING SKILLS! (I still miss him. ::sob::)
Hey, Do What You Like is classy! Okay, not it isn't. But its outrageous ludicrousness is one piece of what makes them all so endearing. Not everyone can survive bizarre nakedness combined with jelly in their career. *g*

Date: 2015-04-08 02:14 pm (UTC)I really do wish I could go back and tell 2009 me what's in store for her regarding TT slash. It think she would be appalled and perplexed. Even more so once I told her that I've written several hundred thousand words of fic. *g*

Date: 2015-04-08 02:46 pm (UTC)I do love the footie jammies in that pic. It's been years since she's worn those, which is sort of terrifying.

Date: 2015-04-08 06:41 pm (UTC)And your TT comment made me lol. I have a very similar one on the post I made after I watched Star Trek XI for the first time. Something like 'I loved the film but I don't think I'll ever get involved in the fandom...'. Erm. *g*

Date: 2015-04-08 06:49 pm (UTC)And I'm glad I'm not the only one who's totally misjudged her upcoming main fannish interest. ;-)
