Ah, Paris

As of tomorrow, we're leaving Paris and heading back to London for a week of theatre, theatre, theatre, and a spot of sightseeing. I'll be very sorry to leave.

Everyone kept telling me that Paris was much more beautiful than London, and I kept thinking they must be wrong. Mais non! C'est vrai! Paris est formidable.

Apart from the sights (Notre Dame, the Louvre, Saint-Chappelle, the Eiffel Tower) just walking around the city is a sheer pleasure. There are beautiful parks scattered throughout the city (the Jardin de Louxembourg being my personal favourite) where you can grab a crepe, pull up a chair and watch the people pass by. Every block seems to have its own creperie where you can get a crepe to take away, as well as a boulangerie with amazing baguettes and croissants and pain aux raisins. And the streets themselves are beautiful. Even the apartment blocks in the working class neighbourhood where we're staying are nicely designed. Then there's the cafes, and the cinemas.

And the restaurants are amazing. Not four star, fancy places, just garden variety bistros and brasseries that you find on any street. We've been to a couple that were recommended by friends and more that we've just stumbled upon in our travels and the food in all was amazing. Nothing complex, just good ingredients, very well prepared. It is frankly going to be hard to go back to England after eating such good food here. (I still adore London, but it's certainly not for the food. Well, except the Indian food.)

Based on this trip, we'll definitely be back at some point.

So jealous, so jealous! *g* Paris is one of my favorite cities, London is the other. You have fun and stay safe!

A friend who just got back from London said the play "When Harry Met Sally" starring Luke Perry and Allison Hannigan was quite good. What are you going to see?

We're having a great time, though we're both about ready to fly home. Which is perfect, since we leave tomorrow.

We saw Othello, with the great Antony Sher playing Iago, Democracy and Journey's End, amongst other things, all of which were great. Our last play is tonight: Jonathan Pryce in The Goat, which should prove interesting.

I spent 6 weeks in Europe in 2000. Three in France, three in the UK.
When I left France for London, I could barely button my pants (the same pair I had on when I landed in Paris three weeks earlier... )
When I left the UK to come back home, the same pants were back to being confortable...
You don't visit England-Scotland for the food, that's for sure :)
But I'd go back to Scotland in a minute if I could...
Have a good and safe trip.

Heh. That sounds about right. Thought, to be fair, we have found some good food in London. (Mostly pan Asian and Indian, though.)

I've still never been to Scotland. Though it's possible I'll make it to Glasgow for the WorldCon next year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I just went thru Glasgow (lucky for me it was on a Sunday!).
But the Hightlands, the Isle of Skye, Edinbourgh, Farquarth (sp?) castle, the Loch Ness....
I could go on and on.
I'm still dreaming about it :)

Miss you!!!
