Yesterday we picked up our tickets and did the final bit of schedule finessing for this year's edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (hereafter TIFF). I'm seeing my usual 30, and though I was shut out of a few films I'd really wanted to see, including Terry Gilliam's Tideland and, of course, Brokeback Mountain, it's still looking to be an interesting year.

My full schedule is behind the cut. If anyone on the flist is going to the same films, let me know. It'd be fun to hook up.

I'm jealous:) I have to wait around for the Stockholm film festival in november. Trying to figure out if I'll have time to do volunteer work at the festival this year.

I'd love to volunteer, but it's difficult if you try and see as many movies as I do.

And your icon reminds me I have to snag one of your lovely Willem icons soon.

Yup, it can be a bit tricky doing both. But on the other hand you do get to see as many movies as you like for free. I was thinking about writing for the festival, reviews and summaries for the programs. That work is over before the festival actually starts and on top of that it's a lot of fun.

I'm probably going to make a few more Willem icons I just need to make some screen-caps. Is there anything particularly you'd like capped while I'm at it?

Writing for the program books would be fun. Alas, the Toronto fest is big enough that doing that is a paid position. (And not to well paid, at that.) Most of the volunteering here is manning lines and taking tickets.

Is there anything particularly you'd like capped while I'm at it?

Nothing I can think of from L.A. (I'm going to grab the Artist icon when I get home.) But if you're ever capping from Platoon, I'd love an icon of Sgt. Elias.

Ours is 60-40. Some paid positions and then they hire people, mainly us students, to do some work on a voluntary basis.

Platoon icons sounds like an excellent idea:)

I didn't know there was a Leonard Cohen movie!

Thanks again for our tix! Lauren is in line as we speak, I think, hoping to get "Whole New Thing" premiere tix and thus doubling our annual CKR Stalk. *g*

The Cohen film is a concert tribute. Since there's a performance by Rufus Wainwright, I had to go.

Barring a miracle, she's not going to get them. The reason we couldn't get them for you is because it's already gone rush only. Which means your only chance is standing in line the day of the screening. Not something I'd generally advise, unless you've got a lot of time on your hands and are willing to be disappointed.

Apparently I spoke too soon, and a miracle has indeed occured. Or rather, the fest guys screwed up Don's order and there really *were* still tickets available. Silly fest. (Don can't catch a break this year. They missed a whole page of his main order this year.)

So does this mean you're going to get Brokeback Mountain after all?

Brokeback really *did* go rush only. But we have a scheme for maybe getting me a ticket.

Cool! I'll keep my fingers crossed. I don't think I'm ever going to be able to watch that movie. I well up just thinking about it.

And in other news... three exclamation marks' worth of squee! Lauren exchanged our "Whole New Thing" tix for the premiere! Double CKR Stalk this year! Are you going to that one?
