Well that didn't go as well as expected

Just got back from a visit to the emergency room in Sault Ste. Marie. We're here visiting Don's family mostly but stopped in tonight to see a cousin of mine and his family. He has two girls, 3 and 6, and they all seemed to be getting along well. We thought nothing of it when the girls took off to their bedroom with Ros,not realizing there was a bunkbed. The next thing we know there's a thud, and Ros is hysterical and we're on our way to hospital.

The doctor was very nice,and couldn't see a break in the x-rays, but put a cast on Ros' foot anyway because there might be a break in a bone plate(one of the still forming sections of bone in a little kid's body which unfortunately doesn't show up in x-rays.)

It's going to be an interesting 5 days keeping Ros from walking on the cast until we can see her doctor. Tomorrow ww're going to try and track down a set of mini crutches so she can be a little mobile.

Yeah, the fun just never stops when you're a parent, huh? :) When my son was five and needed cosmetic repair of a partial cleft lip the plastic surgeon told me that after the surgery. I'd have to keep him out of the sun. For the whole summer. I wanted to say: "Let me guess -- you don't have any kids, do ya?"

Perhaps if her foot hurts she will want to stay off it willingly. Maybe you could rent a kiddie wheelchair if she's amenable.

I'm just envisioning the fun if we have to keep her out of our neighbourhood pools for the rest of the summer. (The darn things just opened up again. Our municipal workers have been on strike the last five weeks.)

Her foot hasn't really hurt much after the first day, so we're hoping it really was just a sprain and they'll take the cast off tomorrow. If not that, a walking cast would be nearly as good.

Sigh.
