Just got back from a visit to the emergency room in Sault Ste. Marie. We're here visiting Don's family mostly but stopped in tonight to see a cousin of mine and his family. He has two girls, 3 and 6, and they all seemed to be getting along well. We thought nothing of it when the girls took off to their bedroom with Ros,not realizing there was a bunkbed. The next thing we know there's a thud, and Ros is hysterical and we're on our way to hospital.

The doctor was very nice, and couldn't see a break in the x-rays, but put a cast on Ros' foot anyway because there might be a break in a bone plate(one of the still forming sections of bone in a little kid's body which unfortunately doesn't show up in x-rays.)

It's going to be an interesting 5 days keeping Ros from walking on the cast until we can see her doctor. Tomorrow ww're going to try and track down a set of mini crutches so she can be a little mobile.

Bugger but I'm sorry to read this. *Hugs you*

I know how scary this sort of thing has to be and good luck with keeping her still.

Yeouch, the poor little bugger. I hope there's no broken bones and she'll get rid of the cast quickly.

Aw poor kid :( and boo hiss to dumb accidents. By tomorrow it probably won't even hurt and the worst will be the itching. When I broke my leg on the ski tow rope (yes I said ski tow rope!) in 2nd grade it took 2 weeks before kid size crutches were available. I also once broke a bone on the side of my foot getting out of bed and promised to stay off it and use crutches to avoid having a cast put on. Also broke my arm and my wrist so I hate casts!

Hey to Soo, Ontario *waves*. I was born and raised in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and back in high school use to go with me best mate on the bus over the International Bridge (no passports needed back then in the 70's) to go shopping in an indoor mall and to McDonalds because we didn't have those things in our much smaller Soo. My dad was also a customs inspector so we tried to go when he was working both so he knew we were back safe and maybe to avoid the duty *g* (not that we ever bought much, just the shopping was fun and the exchange rate was in our favor *hee*)

Eeep! Poor Ros, and poor you, too.

I hope you find a set a mini crutches superfast.

*hugs to all*

Oh, poor you guys! Hope Ros' foot turns out to be okay (bet it will, they're bouncy little things, bairns, right?) and that she gets up to much mischief with her mini-crutches rather than being too worried by it...

Ouch! I'm sure she'll be up & around in no time - I think little ones are so resilient with this kind of thing.
*hugs*

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this.

The poor thing - and I can imagine how scary it must have been for all of you. Good luck with keeping her still!

*Hugs you*

Eeep! A few scary moments, though I'm sure Ros will bounce back (and enjoy the drama) much more quickly than you and Don.

Ouch! for Ros and a big ouch! for you too. In my experience, it's always much harder on the parents. Something very similar happened to my son at probably a very similar age and whilst the doctor decided he didn't need a cast THAT time, he'd already broken his arm and had a whole other catalogue of A&E visits under his belt *sigh*. She will be fine - they bounce back and adapt remarkably quickly at this age, and she will take it all in her stride, and don't be surprised if in 5 days they decide she doesn't need the cast any more.

Good luck with the keeping off the cast thing ;)

*hugs you*

Oh, no. I hope that foot is healed up soon. Ain't mothering and fathering fun? *g*

Take care, both of you.

Yeah, the fun just never stops when you're a parent, huh? :) When my son was five and needed cosmetic repair of a partial cleft lip the plastic surgeon told me that after the surgery. I'd have to keep him out of the sun. For the whole summer. I wanted to say: "Let me guess -- you don't have any kids, do ya?"

Perhaps if her foot hurts she will want to stay off it willingly. Maybe you could rent a kiddie wheelchair if she's amenable.

This too shall pass.

Well, heck, that wasn't supposed to happen! it's inevitable that such things do happen, though--and, yeah, bunk beds are fun, until they're not. *g* I hope Ros both feels better soon and accepts the restrictions. Probably more realistically, I hope you manage to survive the next 5 days!

::Hugs and a pat on the back to send you back into the trenches::

Oh, poor Ros. Good luck on keeping her off her feet - kids seem to bounce back so fast unless they're really badly hurt. Sending some hugs for all of you.

Oh no!!! Poor Ros - and poor you, having to cope with a Ros that can't move around as much as she wants to. Hope she gets out of the cast quickly.

Oh hell's teeth, poor Ros! And poor you having to cope with the shock and the baby in pain (only had to do this a couple of times so far (touch wood), once with each zoic - hate it hate it hate it). I hope she's OK soon, and that it's not long before she can be mobile again {{hugs for all of you}}

Oh heck! Hope you've recovered from the ER visit and that Ros is feeling better and not running you too ragged on those crutches!

Oy! I just saw this now. I hope the little one is on the mend.

And that this hasn't given her a lifelong fear of bunkbeds! :-)
