Soccer Aid Squee
Apr. 11th, 2012 10:03 pmLast night, just as I was about to crash, I found out that Robbie had (finally) announced on his blog that Mark would be participating in Soccer Aid this May.
I'm going to let scruffy footballer!Mark illustrate my reaction to this news:

Football and Take That, with a side helping of possible Willowen cuddling? I honestly don't think I can bear the awesomeness involved.
I have to say, if the match wasn't happening the weekend after we get back from our Disney vacation, I'd probably already have tickets (even though only lousy ones are left; yes, I checked) and have my flight booked to Manchester. As it is, I'll be making a donation to UNICEF and standing by to torrent the game and watch it ASAP.
Can it be May yet?

Date: 2012-04-14 03:01 am (UTC)You first need a torrent client for your computer. This is a program on your machine that links to a torrent site. I'm on a Mac, and use Transmission, but there are other clients out there. Here's a review of the big Mac Torrent clients: http://torrentfreak.com/mac-bt-clients/ And here's one for PC clients, that also include some information on torrenting basics: http://torrentfreak.com/mac-bt-clients/
Then you need to grab a torrent file from a torrent site. One of the main ones I use is http://www.thebox.bz/main.php (This is the one I have invites to, so if you can't get an account, drop me a line.) Another good one is UK Nova, but they don't allow invites, and they cap their memberships, so it can be challenging to get a membership. To get my account, I had to hit the site every day for a couple of weeks, so you may not want to bother. There's also http://eztv.it/ It doesn't require membership, but it concentrates on U.S. TV and only has a bit of UK stuff.
Once you have your client and a torrent site, you next need to download a torrent file for the show you want. Then open your client, and point it to that torrent file. The torrent file allows you to connect to everyone else who is seeding the file. You then pull little bits of the file from them until you have it complete, at which point you become a seeder.
Basic client etiquette is that you want to seed as much as you download.
That should get you started. If you give it a try and have any questions, let me know.

Another question, is this legal? I'm a bit of a coward you see, so I don't know if I dare to do this if it's not legal ;)
Oh, that icon is very pretty. So young! They look just like two kids :D

Date: 2012-04-14 01:31 pm (UTC)As for the legality, yeah, it's pretty much not. I reconcile this for myself by only torrenting the stuff that's just not available here in Canada. Or by torrenting things that I know I'm going to buy as soon as they're out anyway. That's a very personal choice, though. And I imagine the Soccer Aid stuff will turn up on YouTube, and sooner rather than later.
They are pretty in that icon, aren't they? They were just adorably young there, and I love Rob's slightly protective stance and expression, and the way Mark's just sort of snuggled into him.

Date: 2012-04-14 02:05 pm (UTC)I did suspect it was not totally legal;) But I do think it's silly that it's illegal to get stuff stuff that's not available to you anyway, even if you are willing to pay for it. Yeah, I guess Soccer Aid will be up on YouTube very soon after, so we'll see how to do with this ;)
Yes, Rob is looking *very* protective, his expression saying "Don't touch him!" :D
