Soccer Aid Squee
Apr. 11th, 2012 10:03 pmLast night, just as I was about to crash, I found out that Robbie had (finally) announced on his blog that Mark would be participating in Soccer Aid this May.
I'm going to let scruffy footballer!Mark illustrate my reaction to this news:

Football and Take That, with a side helping of possible Willowen cuddling? I honestly don't think I can bear the awesomeness involved.
I have to say, if the match wasn't happening the weekend after we get back from our Disney vacation, I'd probably already have tickets (even though only lousy ones are left; yes, I checked) and have my flight booked to Manchester. As it is, I'll be making a donation to UNICEF and standing by to torrent the game and watch it ASAP.
Can it be May yet?

Date: 2012-04-12 04:40 pm (UTC)Here's hoping for the tackling of team mates and the pulling down of shorts!

Date: 2012-04-12 04:15 am (UTC)I think I love EVERYTHING that has to with it and I LOVED how Rob announced it, made it soooooooo important and awwww, I could just see him sit there in front of his laptop, hardly able to wait until the deadline (he created himself!), fangirling like a really BIG GIRL!
And I lovelovelove just how happy this must make Mark!
Aaaaaaaand OF COURSE you have checked the tickets! I'd have been disappointed if you hadn't! *g*

Date: 2012-04-12 12:20 pm (UTC)I've been hoping ridiculously hard that Mark got to play in this match. (Especially since Olly Murs popped up in the list so early. Grrrrr.) And I was very happy to see how enthusiastically Rob made the announcement. Yay!
Just wish that there were better tickets available, and that I could reasonably get over for the match. (And if you could make it too, that would be even better!) Ah well, that's what the internet is for, no?

Date: 2012-04-12 05:31 am (UTC)And Howard's doing a DJ gig in Manchester a week afterwards, which would've been PERFECT.
But the gig is also the day of the Canada/USA friendly here which I have already planned to go to and will buy tickets for this week.

Date: 2012-04-12 12:21 pm (UTC)Hmmmm, when is the Canada/USA friendly match? That sounds interesting. I've not got tickets to any games this year, and a non-TFC one might be fun.

Date: 2012-04-12 03:55 pm (UTC)The match is June 3rd, and then on June 12 Canada starts the next round of World Cup Qualifiers. I went to their WCQ home matches last year, they were super fun!

Date: 2012-04-12 03:15 pm (UTC)Robbie + Mark + Little Shorts + Football - hugging, bruising and cuteness is inevitable *g*
YES! \o/

Date: 2012-04-12 03:33 pm (UTC)I'm hoping the Willowen cuddling is probably more than possible (and *fingers crossed* inevitable ;))

Date: 2012-04-12 04:10 pm (UTC)Hehe, oh yes, a Markie tour would never be treated so lightly ;)

Date: 2012-04-12 04:33 pm (UTC)I reckon the new baby on the way has greatly reduced the chances of a solo Mark tour. But hey, it could still happen. ::crossing fingers::

Date: 2012-04-12 04:07 pm (UTC)I love me a fast, agile attacking midfielder with good dribbling skills! Combined with Mark = TOO much. Really curious to see if he's still got it (besides all the rest he's got going for him, damn him!).

Date: 2012-04-12 04:30 pm (UTC)That scruffy footballer!Mark pic turned up on Tumblr in the last week and I grabbed it immediately. I'm also very fond of scruffy Mark. And I pretty much adored the beard from earlier this year, mostly because I thought it was adorable that it took him to age 40 to grow a proper beard. ;-)

What you said! I've watched rather of lot of the charity matches he's done on YT, and he really is good! Here's hoping he's still got it.

Date: 2012-04-12 06:40 pm (UTC)I had hoped that Mark would be there, but didn't dare to believe it. Sadly I can't go but I'm so looking forward to all the pics and vids. Btw, do you know how to watch this game on your computer outside UK? ITV Player only work if you are in the UK :(
I loved Rob's message, it was just so lovely and sweet. Awwwww - again! :))

Date: 2012-04-12 07:29 pm (UTC)For UK TV I generally depend on torrents, which for most shows go up a few hours to a day after airing. I can give you a short primer if you like, and I've got a couple of invitations to one of the big UK TV torrents sites.
Rob's message was lovely, and so very him.

Date: 2012-04-14 03:01 am (UTC)You first need a torrent client for your computer. This is a program on your machine that links to a torrent site. I'm on a Mac, and use Transmission, but there are other clients out there. Here's a review of the big Mac Torrent clients: http://torrentfreak.com/mac-bt-clients/ And here's one for PC clients, that also include some information on torrenting basics: http://torrentfreak.com/mac-bt-clients/
Then you need to grab a torrent file from a torrent site. One of the main ones I use is http://www.thebox.bz/main.php (This is the one I have invites to, so if you can't get an account, drop me a line.) Another good one is UK Nova, but they don't allow invites, and they cap their memberships, so it can be challenging to get a membership. To get my account, I had to hit the site every day for a couple of weeks, so you may not want to bother. There's also http://eztv.it/ It doesn't require membership, but it concentrates on U.S. TV and only has a bit of UK stuff.
Once you have your client and a torrent site, you next need to download a torrent file for the show you want. Then open your client, and point it to that torrent file. The torrent file allows you to connect to everyone else who is seeding the file. You then pull little bits of the file from them until you have it complete, at which point you become a seeder.
Basic client etiquette is that you want to seed as much as you download.
That should get you started. If you give it a try and have any questions, let me know.

Date: 2012-04-14 01:12 pm (UTC)Thanks so much for the lesson. This seems a bit complicated, but I might give it a try;) I'm on a PC and I'm wondering about the link you provided for Torrent clients, was that the correct link? It looks like you put the same link twice (for Mac users)?
Another question, is this legal? I'm a bit of a coward you see, so I don't know if I dare to do this if it's not legal ;)
Oh, that icon is very pretty. So young! They look just like two kids :D

Date: 2012-04-14 01:31 pm (UTC)As for the legality, yeah, it's pretty much not. I reconcile this for myself by only torrenting the stuff that's just not available here in Canada. Or by torrenting things that I know I'm going to buy as soon as they're out anyway. That's a very personal choice, though. And I imagine the Soccer Aid stuff will turn up on YouTube, and sooner rather than later.
They are pretty in that icon, aren't they? They were just adorably young there, and I love Rob's slightly protective stance and expression, and the way Mark's just sort of snuggled into him.

Date: 2012-04-14 02:05 pm (UTC)I did suspect it was not totally legal;) But I do think it's silly that it's illegal to get stuff stuff that's not available to you anyway, even if you are willing to pay for it. Yeah, I guess Soccer Aid will be up on YouTube very soon after, so we'll see how to do with this ;)
Yes, Rob is looking *very* protective, his expression saying "Don't touch him!" :D
